During the Ice festivals. I feel more calm.
I was riding a horse on the ice
Outside is so cold. It’s important to wearing warm clothes
Eye catching Ice sculpture. I saw there is ice house.
Heart touching picture of
the running against child and women abuse.
The oldest and the fastest participant of the running. She was 85 years old.
Unfortunately, I don’t have good picture of me. Luckily, I find myself from the short video. :)
Knowing and Winning Myself- My leisure stories
Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom
I want to share two stories which I will never forget in my life. On March in 2019, I decided to go to the Ice festivals in Khuvsgul province with my friends. Since it was one of the best Ice festivals that was held once in every winter, I did not want to miss the opportunity. Initially, five of my friends wanted to visit festival. Two weeks later some of them had already changed their minds. They said to me ‘it is too far from Ulaanbaatar and it seems like much colder and uncomfortable during winter’.Finally before the last weekend other three of them also abandoned their plan to travel. I could never imagine that my plan would be ruined so quickly. There are big questions for me. Should I wait for next winter or go by myself? The ice festivals is held at Khuvsgul lake in Khuvsgul province. It has the largest fresh water lake in Mongolia which is located in the north of western part. Eventually, I have decided to go by myself and prepared for my trip. I went by bus. That time I did not have any idea about travelling there. I arrived at Khuvsgul province, I stayed in a small room at local hotel for one day. I arranged a car to pick me up to take me to the Ice festival. After reaching there I just walked around in Khuvsgul province. I was meeting new people and talked with them about everything. It was so interesting for me.It was an eye catching moment when I came to the place where the ice festival was organized. It was challenging to me to travel alone. There were many people who were visiting together with their friends, work colleagues, and family. I felt like I am the only person alone by myself, but after few hours I got used to the situation and felt better.
I have taken beautiful photos and watched unique ice sculptures and ate local fresh food, met with new people. When I returned back a hotel, I am happy that I came to the festival. This trip had given me more confidence and helped me think about the meaning of life.
I am always proud of the younger generations who are working hard to help improve in my country. I also admired one young person who was working very diligently in the Mongolian education sector. He is leading a Non government organization that coordinated the marathon event in 2014 to raise funds for combatting Child abuse and violence woman. I really wanted to attend this event, but I could not find partner who was wanted to run on a Sunday. By the way, I am still an amateur runner. In my understanding is that it’s not a just running, no matter whether you are an amateur or professional. The meaning participating in the marathon was to influence in positive way in my society. Every person knows about that child, woman abuse is not good. It’s time to say this in a more stronger voice using the event of the marathon.I clearly remember that when I woke up in morning on day of marathon it was a cold and grey day. I went by bus from my home. I came to the running place. I saw many old people who are preparing to running. The oldest participants was 85 years old.I have realized I am never really alone unless I choose to be. There is always someone willing to help. I am not good at running. Therefore, It is very understandable that I am not winner, but I won myself by deciding to participate this event by myself. These two trips helped me see my true self with more insight. Finally, I want to share my thoughts about leisure studies and leisure habits in my country.Leisure activities are strongly connected with such issues including development of country, sustainable political policy, power of economy and level of income. In developing country like mine, there are not any comprehensive theoretical understanding about leisure studies. To be honesty, I don’t have any idea about leisure time before I am attended this lecture. So I am interested this topic, I asked few a questions about leisure activity among my friends. While I was chatting with people I understood that weather is strongly influence on Mongolians lifestyle. We have a continental climate prone to extreme temperature swings. It has four clearly distinctive seasons. Earlier I have mentioned that I had taken a quick poll about leisure activities among my Facebook friends. A total of 26 people participated in my poll. According to my poll, 18 participants preferred to stay home, spend time with their children and family, 4 of them said to me ‘sleeping well is leisure’, 4 people ‘they do not have enough free time’, others told me that they had been hiking in the mountains, playing basketball, going out of city. When I was chatting with people I observed two common but opposite answers. The first one was to stay at home on weekends, the other one was to go out of the city. In my opinion, it may have been related to problem of traffic jams and air pollution. People don’t want to spend too much time in a traffic jam that’s why they prefer to stay home on weekends. On the other hand, in the winter time there is much more air pollution in Ulaanbaatar area. People want to go out of the city center, to breathe a fresh air.Initially, I thought about leisure time and that leisure study is not too hard to understand. After I have attended the lecture, thinking more deeply about our lifestyles and chatting with people. My mind has completely changed.I understand that leisure time of the measure of quality of life and a way to know more about yourself.
